THRC welcomes funding for student work placements in federal budget

OTTAWA, ON (November 5, 2025) — Trucking HR Canada welcomes the Government of Canada’s decision in Budget 2025 to grant a further 3-year extension to the Student Work Placement Program (SWPP).

“This signals a clear understanding of the connection between Canada’s competitiveness, employers building their talent pipeline, and youth getting meaningful work-integrated learning opportunities,” says Angela Splinter, CEO, Trucking HR Canada. “We appreciate the efforts of Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu to pave the way for students to acquire practical, job-ready skills, which strengthens the capacity of Canadian businesses to grow and innovate. The result is a stronger, more competitive trucking and logistics workforce.”

“Supporting Canada’s ambitious plans for economic growth requires building the workforce that will power the supply chain and strengthen our country’s ability to compete globally.”

The Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) has delivered strong results for the trucking and logistics sector. Delivered under THRCs Career Express Way initiative, the program has seen 250 employers across the country provide work placements for more than 1800 students to date.
