Trucking job openings continue to cool as hiring slows in Q3 2025
Ottawa, ON (December 19, 2025) — Trucking HR Canada (THRC) data that became available this week show the downward trend in job openings in the truck transportation sector continued through the third quarter of 2025.
This week’s numbers show that job openings, as well as the percentage of total positions being actively recruited for, are declining, extending a trend observed throughout the first three quarters of the year.
This latest information falls on the heels of last week’s release of employment and unemployment numbers in trucking and logistics.
“THRC tracks the labour market specifically to monitor trends like this: the Q3 data shows the pace of hiring in truck transportation is clearly slowing,” said Craig Faucette, Chief Operating Officer at Trucking HR Canada. “This cooling trend gives employers a moment to reassess workforce planning after several years of intense hiring pressure.”
In Q3 2025, job openings in the truck transportation sector declined by 18% year over year, representing 1,785 fewer vacant positions. The share of all truck transportation jobs being actively recruited for also fell, from 4.3% in Q3 2024 to 3.7% in Q3 2025.
Key findings include:
- Job openings in the transport truck driver occupation declined by 12%, or 1,595 positions, year over year.
- The proportion of transport truck driver jobs being actively recruited for decreased from 3.7% in Q3 2024 to 3.3% in Q3 2025.
Despite the decline, job vacancy rates in truck transportation remain higher than the Canadian average. According to Statistics Canada, job openings across the broader workforce held steady at 2.8% from Q2 to Q3 2025.
