First THRC workforce bootcamp wraps up successful day in Calgary

3 panelists on stage

OTTAWA, ON (February 23, 2026) — Trucking HR Canada (THRC) kicked off their new Trucking and Logistics Workforce Bootcamp series with an event in Calgary that got rave reviews for the unique level of engagement and discussion among sector professionals.

The one-day bootcamp delivered regional labour market intelligence, practical insights into the work environment in the sector, and peer discussions that focused on current and future challenges in trucking and logistics. A special panel discussion with executives from two Alberta Top Fleet Employers — Caron Transportation Systems and Trimac Transportation — delivered crucial insights into how they’re adapting to improve HR operations.

“Our industry is facing real pressure — labour challenges, compliance complexity, shifting expectations — and leaders are carrying a lot. In times like this, investing in people and strengthening leadership isn’t optional, it’s essential,” says Angela Splinter, CEO, THRC. ”This unique learning opportunity helps leaders grow stronger, and when they do their companies become more resilient.”

The day also included the results of THRC’s labour market insights and Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) graduate research. Some of the provincial data shared included:

  • The majority of employers in the sector believe expectations to train new drivers are too high. And most agree that onboarding newly licensed drivers is costlier than bringing on experienced drivers
  • Driver compensation is on the rise in Alberta
  • 73% of MELT graduates found full-time employment after graduation: 43% in logistics, transportation or warehousing; 13% in oil and gas; and 12% in trades, transport, equipment operators and related occupations
  • Q4 2025 employment data showed employment in Alberta’s trucking and logistics industry dropped 8% year over year, compared to a 1.2% drop nationally. The sector shed 8,600 jobs, though truck driver employment remained strong

There was also a presentation of a Women’s Leadership Accord Certificate of Excellence to Women Building Futures, bringing the total signatories to 50.
