Student Work Placement Program 

Get up to $5,000 in wage reimbursements when you hire a student currently attending a post-secondary institution. 

Grow your workforce with new talent

 This program’s goal is to increase the job readiness of post-secondary students. Employers can take advantage of this wage subsidy to help reduce the overhead costs of hiring and training new talent. Participating in student work placements also helps highlight the variety of opportunities available within your company to soon-to-be graduates, building your talent pipeline with experienced workers. 


Benefits

Financial incentives offered: 

50% reimbursement of gross wages, up to $5,000 per term 

Increased reimbursement for students from equity-deserving groups of 70%, up to $7,000 per term 

Ways to participate 

Work placements must offer: 

Full-time or part-time work opportunity (minimum 4 weeks, maximum 16 weeks; minimum of 10 hours/week)

A safe and harassment-free work environment 

Work experience with clear educational value to the student’s area of study

Details

Employers must: 

Be a business registered in Canada

Be in the trucking and logistics industry 

Hire more students than they did before accessing SWPP 

Hire a current post-secondary student into a role relevant to their studies 

Hire students as employees. Participants are not eligible for the program as contractors. 

Hire students who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or granted refugee status in Canada 

Hire students legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations 

Please note: we are unable to fund placements of international students, Canadian students enrolled outside of Canada, or students pursuing education in the skilled trades. Placements cannot also be funded by another Federal Grant Program.
