Slight dip in December trucking employment with 6,300 fewer drivers employed
Ottawa, ON (January 28, 2026) — December employment in the trucking and logistics sector was down 16,700 jobs compared to November, and there were 6,300 fewer drivers employed, according to the latest data from Trucking HR Canada (THRC).
Across the Canadian economy in general, the data show employment remained largely unchanged in December compared to November, adding just 8,200 jobs, following three straight months of increased employment.

“The slight dip in employment numbers is not unexpected given global instability and its impact on trade,’” says Craig Faucette, Chief Operating Officer, THRC. “The sector did shed some jobs, but less than previous months.”
